Manchester United's Wayne Rooney faces a charge of driving without due care and attention after an accident at a shopping centre.
The 19-year-old England striker's BMW X5 was in collision with a Nissan Primera driven by a 45-year-old woman.

The United star was involved in the accident at a shopping centre in Cheadle Hulme in Stockport, Greater Manchester, on Thursday afternoon.

Mr Rooney is to get a letter summoning him to Stockport Magistrates Court.

He will face a charge of driving without due care and attention and faces a maximum fine of £5,000 and a possible ban.

The other driver suffered minor whiplash injuries in the accident.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police were informed of a two vehicle road traffic collision at the Stanley Green Retail Park roundabout in Cheadle Hulme in Stockport.

"A BMW X5 was in collision with a Nissan Primera. The 19-year-old male driver of the BMW from Cheshire has been reported for summons for driving without due care and attention."

Oh dear, that does seem to be a little unwise.

Mind you, I passed a TrafPol car on the A1(M) northbound just up the road from Wetherby the other day. I was doing about 90 in lane 3 and he was in lane 1 nicely surrounded by HGVs so that was OK.

I do accept I am sometimes a bit lucky not to get caught.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Hmm, a 9 mph speed differential? If that is true they should have been viewed by him for quite a while. Sounds careless I think.

Best wishes all,
Dave - not an admirer of hugely overpaid footballers.

Blue and twos are to aid with visibility only

Re Man U people they usually come up with some "emergency" made up situation - employ that Ar5e of a solicitor Nick someoneorother and get off on a technicality after lining his pockets with thousands!

Yes DVD, North Yorkshire is a good place to be, and the County Durham gang also sound OK. Now, what about the rest of them?

Best wishes all,
Dave.

I think these footballers are overpaid and total wusses.

A real man plays rugby Und ice hockey Und hurtles at great speed into the unknown on a ski jump... und Mad Doc - mein liebstes Liebchen - of course I include you making me a golf widow each weekend

But - does it say what speed he was travelling at - und roundabbouts are always tricky for Rooney types... ist like trying to outwit his markers when he changes lanes - nicht?

But he must have been off-side when he collided mit the woman...

Und shall disappear under the again.... Ist safest place to be when in vicinity of any football player who ist on the road.....

Beg pardon Gone, but I thought it had been said (maybe by you?) that police drivers will sometimes use high speeds without blues and twos in order not to advertise their presence too readily to their target - or have I misunderstood something?

Best wishes all,
Dave.

I did see a rather novel use of blues and twos yesterday, namely to get round a bit of the traffic jam and slot back in further down. Pulled out of the jam, along the bus lane with blues and twos, then back into the jam a few cars further down. I assumed they were pulling in front of/behind a suspect vehicle that they were going to stop. However they just seemed to merge back into traffic and carry on their way!

Is that legal??

As for Nick Freeman, he is the embodiment of why this country's legal system is able to mercilessly extract the urine from the public! Getting paid shedloads of wonga to get famous people off on trumped up charges! Not a good thing IMO! Anyone daft enough to overtake a blues and twos shod car at 106mph deserves a spell off the road!

Sorry about that, I gave the wrong impression there! I highly respect Nick Freeman from everything I have heard about him from the press and various forums. He is one of the best in the business for sure, just sometimes the nature of the business is a bit of a bugbear. Some of the technicalities used to get certain clients off their charges are a little OTT.

Saying that, if I ever needed a top quality representative after a speeding charge, I would be calling Freeman!

I can understand your "emotional" response
I wasnt talking about your aunt

I was meaning the obviously guilty who think that cos theyre rich and powerful the law doesnt apply to them and that they can bust the traffic queue due to

a - Being chased by paparazzi
b - diarehea

Thats injustice!

Why is this teenager described as a "star"?
Why is any football player described as a "star"?
I'd love to have him hanging on the end of a rope off Ben Nevis with a thousand feet of fresh air beneath him and see just how big a "star" he is.
To me the whole football scenario is insane and utterly offensive.
