We have a few VAG cars in the family I always used an old version of VAG COM on my older cars (corrado and mk1 TT) but we now have an MQB platform 2013 Golf that this won't talk to.

I notice theres a few different products now, the VCDS equivalent of VAG COM is not ridiculously expensive. I saw OBDEleven whose offerign confused the hell out of me and something called VCP?!

I want to read fault codes, and actively code the car, for example I just changed the battery on the Golf and apparently I'm supposed to code the new battery in (capacity and tell it's new) for the start stop and dynamic charging to work most effectively. My mum's 2015 Fabia is showing "low battery" on the dash so the same needs doing to that when I bin the dire Moll battery.

This will only be used once in a blue moon when they break down or need a new battery, so whats the cheapest way of getting VAG diagnostics and coding these days?

If you're wanting to code, I would think the cheapest way will be ODBeleven. (google it)

If you're just wanting to read/clear fault codes, basic enabling of features (eg needle sweep, behaviour of lights/doors etc) then Carista is a very cheap and useful tool.

Another option (if you're only wanting to code rarely and don't want the expense) would be to head over to somewhere like audisport.net and ask one of the members with VCDS to do a bit of coding for you.

Cheaper alternatives are available from the likes of aliexpress.com if you don't mind waiting for delivery from China

I got a cable from there last year which has worked nicely with my 2015 TT, managed to code in a few bits.
