BMW X3 Bluetooth Issue

Can anyone help me with a telephone Bluetooth problem. I’ve just acquired a 2008 X3 M 2.0d. I’ve driven BMW for the last 30 years, 4 x 7 series, an X5 , a 525m Touring and my wife drove a 325 convertible for 15 years but connecting my IPhone X to the Bluetooth in this car has me beat. There is a unit in the back with a label saying TCU 1.5 USA , which I understand to be the communications Centre. Can you help a perplexed old guy?

I don't remember the bluetooth in our 2007 X3 3.0SD working with new phones.
