Super market petrol ???????

Has anyone any comments on Sainsbury's petrol. Normally super plus over here is 91.9 p a litre but with Sainsbury,s are selling it at 83 p a litre. Am I missing something (like additives or the like). Or have I found the right place to buy.

Mac runs worse on Optimax and positively hates BP Ultimate so he only gets Sainsburys.
I beleive its a brand thing. There are only so many refineries so the fuel is the same probably minus a few additives.
I'm sure the technical wizzies wil be along.

I filled mine up with it on Sunday and my cars developed a very pronounced mis-fire at 26-2800 RPM.
I'm going to fill her up with Optimax tomorrow to see if that cures it (god I hope so - wallet very drained at present) but I'd be interested to hear in what way peoples cars run badly on different fuels.

mine coughed this week on sainsbury's petrol, unsure if there's any connection, but just filled with optimax to compare.

anyway, with optimax until early july there's a competition to win one of six supercars - and yes, one's a TVR!

Generally I run on 95RON, and I've heard that all 95 RON is the same, so I can't see any harm. My brother's mini positively hates Optimax and misbehaves all over the place.

I think it's largely horses for courses. The one time I've had to run mine on 95RON, rather than Optimax, which is what it's fed usually, it ran like a complete bitch and did lumpy farts through town

My 4.0L Chim used to run the same on 95 or 97/98 supermarket or branded.

I stick any old unleaded in and it runs as sweet as a nut. Haven't used any Supermarket fuel yet though.

Tried Optimax the other day and couldn't detect any difference.

My Chim has not been retarded to run on standard unleaded and doesn't like it too much - feels sluggish and pinks at high revs. Runs fine through the rev range and pulls like a train on Optimax and Ultimate.

I run the Tuscan on Tesco unleaded and its fine on that. Pops and bangs a bit more on Optimax though

all fuel is the relatively the same (Optimax is 98 RON unleaded that has an detergent additive that is metered in as you pump it in and it is slightly lower density than other unleaded 98's)..."Supermarket fuel" is a myth it comes from one of the big brands...depending on who won the contract last...

I was told yesterday that Tesco's is now selling a Super Unleaded brand, reportedly at 99RON, currently 91.9p a litre. The source was reliable, but I'll check it out today.

your car should run quite happily on pretty much any fuel but they are set up to run on 98 octane so you may get pinking on lower grades.
However the higher the octane the harder it is to ignite, so if your car gets misfirey on high octane fuels its a symptom of a weak ignition system.
Lpg is 115ron and we get endless problems of customers with misfires on gas but not on petrol they never believe the fault is with the ignition system

Two tanks of Sainbury's superplus yesterday and no problems.

Even the wallet is running better now, will be back for more.

Oh yes for those don't know Shell do not do Optimax thing in Ireland, we are 3rd class world to shell over here.
