Focus ST Mk3 Automatic headlamp fault, service required

Hi,

I've got a '65 plate Focus ST Mk3 facelift. Noticed that the passenger side headlight is playing up. During the startup phase where the lights move around and level out and set, the driver side seems to work ok but the passenger side just keeps moving around, pointing in all directions, until after 30 secs or so it fails and I get a message on the dash that "headlamp failure, service required". The "follow-me" function where you turn the steering wheel and the headlights follow also no longer works. The motor and actual bulb do work, is there some kind of leveling sensor I should be looking at?

I had this issue on my 2015 Focus ST3. Dealer diagnosis was the headlight unit mechanism had failed and had to be replaced in entirety.

The warranty repair cost was £600.

I recall a few owners on the st owners club had the same issue so it might be worth checking there to see if a less drastic fix has been discovered.

My biggest frustration was that they had the car for some time as Ford UK would not authorise the repair until the dealer could replicate the fault (due to cost) - and then it took a few weeks for the part to be delivered.

Hi, thanks for the advice. It's gone into Ford today for diagnostics. Hopefully it something that can be repaired rather than having to replace the whole unit, but I doubt it Joy. Frustratingly it's about 1 month out of the manufacturers warranty

Akira, have you had any updates with this? I have the exact same issue except I'm about 5 months out of warranty. Ford have quoted me £1708 to replace both headlights, which is ridiculous if you ask me. I won't be paying it. This is obviously a very common issue from reading different forums and watching YouTube videos of other people who have the same issue. Ford can hardly call it wear & tear and there should be a recall for this.

I had a MK3 (facelifted) ST Estate and had to get a headlight replaced under warranty due to the cornering/self-levelling thing going wonky.

All replaced under warranty with no hassle (did take 2 trips though - one to diagnose and one to replace) by the local Ford dealer.

Quite common apparently.
