2007 Jetta - The Engine Management lamp turns off when the engine starts but the Emission Control lamp is permanently displayed.

After spending £60 to check the fault, 2 possible causes, I spent £161 replacing a recirculating valve which failed to clear the fault. Identified as a probable known timing chain fault
https://www.autobild.de/artikel/vw-tsi-motorschaed... - The page is in German which required Google translation

The offer from the garage is to spend £1250 to access the timing chain, if it is the known fault and VW agree they may contribute 50% towards a final bill of over £4000. Not logical.

It sailed through the last MOT well within the emission limits.
Will it pass the 2018 MOT regulations

I couldn't see any useful info in that page. Do you know the actual fault code(s)?

Would a Jetta that age be worth much more than £1200 ? Nevermind £4k !

And what exact fault codes are being presented ?

Hi guys, Thanks for the replies. Ideally I need qualified 2018 MOT tester to review

Car checked at main VW dealer with full diagnostic equipment
Fault code P3008. VW Technical sheet TPI 2020427
Investigative cost prior to going forward £1104.00
Subsequent timing chain repair/replacement cost estimates vary but all in excess of £4000

My question is will the car immediately fail MOT inspection, from 2018 if Engine Management light stays on = FAIL = scrap car
There is no mention of Emission Control light in MOT manual.
My EML goes off OK but the Emission Control light stays on.

I agree the cost of repair far exceeds value of car and no guarantee that would solve the issue but not required nor a sensible option.
Car is running fine, no excessive noise, no increase in fuel consumption, emissions are well within limits. I want to keep it on the road.
