new porsche 997
Discussion
In answer to your sound system question, I am looking at the same thing with my 997. I've previously added a Parrot to other cars without bluetooth and USB, but the Porsche system is I believe fibre optic which makes it need more bits to connect. Still looking into it, will compare notes if I find anything.

If you have a Becker with CD changer you can give that up and fit a cable (Ebay) that fits in the back of the head unit instead (may be doable even if you don't have a CD changer anyway - guess the plug is at the back of the unit anyway) and plug in your phone.
Whatever you have, may be worth ebaying for a cable that uses any free plugs for rear "aux" if that is the correct term.
If you have Becker with nav and it uses a CF flash card for the maps - you can buy another CF card and put your music on instead.
The above info is for the 996. Maybe applies to yours, maybe not, just something to work on. My Becker has bluetooth but only for phone use (calls) not media.

I fitted a Pioneer FA88 dab to my CGTS 891. Dumped the old tech PCM 3.1Bert
Now have Apple CarPlay and 2 USB outlets
One for an iPod classic in the glove box and one for my iPhone.
Perfect infotainment set up for me.

Being original fitment, there would be a market for your "old" unit, so either keep it with the car or else Ebay it, don't chuck it out.lee
The old units are worth F*** all (I sold a PCM 2.1, bose amp & speakers & DVD drive & CD changer all for £300 recently after the PCM only attracted bids up to £90 on eBay)
The problem with keeping them to return to stock after is that you have to pay for that and you don't recoup much when you sell the new stuff second hand
Best bet is to keep the removed stuff and sell it with the car so anyone concerned about originality has the option to go back at their own cost and you don't lose potential buyers. If you're changing the head unit change the door speakers too and fit an amp, the original equipment is poor.
FWIW I preferred the black roof and haven't seen one before & also don't like or see the point of tints but that's your choice. I wouldn't lower it if it has PASM. I think the 997 rides really nicely as is and is the best handling car I have owned so far
Anyway onto PSE here's the scoop. As you say it should only go to loud mode when Sport is pressed and between certain speeds I think over 50kph ie 30MPH the thinking being that it would be quiet in residential areas. You can buy a bypass box from Carnewal for £150 that has a remote fob and lets you turn it on or off as you wish and it also retains the last mode you had it in where as without it you have to turn it on every time and also you may not wat the Sport PASM setting and throttle map (although you can put PASM back to normal with the button). In my opinion the bypass box is a must and takes about 3 minutes to fix. It is easy enough for anyone intelligent enough to have acquired a 997!
The difference in noise between on & off is marked, it is loud in 'on' like a dinosaur and in quiet mode sounds like a large sewing machine so if you aren't getting that, it is likely that the valve has failed which happened to me twice, once leaving it stuck in loud and once quiet in a 4 year period. It is a cheap fix maybe £300 all in

Before you do anything else you want to check you have the 3rd Generation IMS bearing fitted as that was the model year they changed to a fatter bearing ,mine is the same yr as yours and that's the first thing I did if fact I had the mod done to double sure of no failure , its means removing the gearbox and doing the mod ,But its piece of mind I sure you know all about this anyway
Enjoy your car there great

Don’t change your car based on opinions of strangers on the internet! As long as you like it that’s what matters.
If you’re happy with the PSE being on all the time it’s not an issue. The only benefit to getting it fixed is if for example you want to leave early in the morning and are concerned about upsetting your neighbors, or if it’s droning on motorways and annoying you

, I didnt like the wheels black but didnt mind the roof black really, I saw a new one the other day the same colour and that had a black roof probably from factory and paint not stuck on, looked nice, don't think it was the Targa,
That was probably the panoramic type sunroof of the 991Edited by Adam B on Sunday 13th January 23:10
