BMW E34 530 V8 1995 - SLUGGISH PICKUP AND NOW POWER

Hi guys,
I am very new to this site, and this my first post, thank you for letting me in. I have a question for all BMW genius, since I haven't got any mechanical knowledge I have to depend yours opinion,
I have recently owned a BMW 530i V8, E34, I got all the required major service done by my mechanic. However he is not a BMW specialist. Any way he was one of my good friends who helped me with major service. car is driven ok, but I found that car is very sluggish and pickup is very poor, according to the book its 160kw, but the pickup is very slow, however once it gone to 70-80 kms it goes ok, but the pickup is very sluggish. I even cant pick up with a old slow light truck, truck is well in front of me all the time. the pickup is that slow.
Is there any gentleman who can give me some ideas to eliminate the problem with the car through this beautiful forum pls.?

It's a V8. I6 530i in e34 form was available only until 1991.
Apart from the general sluggishness are there any other symptoms - idle stable, not hesitating etc. I assume air filters, spark plugs etc are in good condition? Any excessive oil consumption?
