Looking to replace the wife’s AWD Sportage and as both boys now drive, we don’t need a big family car.
She like the S4 I had new in 2014, but doesn’t wasnt a Saloon, so in theory the TTS looks like a possible option.

I usually get her lease cars, but the new model isn’t out yet, so this will be a used purchase for up to £20k. That money could buy a TTRS, but if I do, We will probably want to keep it.

I test drove both a manual and an auto version today and both were good, but every Audi model seems to have their skeletons and I wondered what problems people have had with the TTS?

We found the TT driving position a bit awkward,( We've had a golf, Leon, Z4 and have an A4 for comparisons of ones that are OK) so make sure your wife likes it.

Also consider an A5TFSI /S5 coupe/convertible if you want to occasionally be able to transport the now mobile sprogs occasionally without having to amputate anything.

Had a MK2 for 6 years and have had a MK3 for 3 years. Both daily drivers doing around 12k per year. Both have been pretty low maintenance with service intervals at 19k making them fairly reasonable to run.

Only problem I had with the MK2 was both rear dampers went after 5 years. Magnetic jobbies so the bill was over a grand although that halved when the garage waived their labour charges as we both thought Audi should have helped.

Only problem I have had with current car is the sides of the sports seats come away. The clips holding them are not strong enough. It's a common issue and mine were fixed under warranty.

For £20k I'd say you're better of with a Mk3 Quattro, as you'll only get a Mk2 TTS for that money. These do 0-62mph in 5.3s so very little different in performance but it's a much more modern car for the money.
