A family member has gifted me a bottle for Christmas. A litre of it. Just had a double over ice. Even watered down it’s too sweet. I also received a litre of the standard black label.

What can I do with it? Any ideas are welcomed. I’m going to try it as an old fashioned later, mixed 50/50 with the regular.

Make a marinade for the barbecue come the summer? I’d imagine it would be amazing on some slow cooked spare ribs!

I am liking the ideas. I must admit, when I’m looking for a cheap lunch you can’t beat a spoons burger and pint. They do a burger with JD sauce, which is delicious.

But a cocktail to wash it down with would be better!

Make whiskey sours with it? The lemon juice should balance out the sweetness if you don't add any extra syrup or sugar.

Pour it over the Christmas pudding and light.

Do I win a prize for the worst timed piece of advice so far this year?

As I'm quite classy, I used to take 1 liter in two 500ml plastic bottles with sports caps to sip (once I'd had enough beer) at Glastonbury. Found it much easier to drink neat and slightly warm than any other whiskey. That was fine until the other year when the lid came off and spilled over my bag, coat and me.

Back to the question, as others have said I've found it works in cocktails where sugar syrup would normally be added.

Or if cooking added to frying onions is nice or maybe a batch of bacon jam?

I drink it over ice , but most goes into bbq sauces and glazes when smoking hams and ribs . Also works well in bbq beans :lick Another trick is to soak either plums , peaches or apricots in it , on the barbie then sprinkle with toasted oats and serve with ice cream

Add some bitters and a bit of orange rind over ice for an easy Old Fashioned?

Not sure that soaking your plums in JD is a good idea ...

Just tried this. Mixed it 50/50 with JD black. I will probably have another four. Delicious.
