Why Now I wonder?
Discussion
Just got my 993 Targa back from servicing at the same OPC which has been doing it since I bought it new some eight and a half years ago.
The technician has reported "driver's door check strap clicking" (which I obviously knew). I asked the service rep and one of the managers why they mention this now when it has been present for at least the last three if not four or more service visits and nothing was mentioned.
The response was blank looks and "maybe the question should be why didn't we report it before". So I said OK why didn't you - which produced a second lot of blank looks.
Sounds to me as if somebody at Porsche GB has issued instructions for the dealerships to cover their backsides with regard to this well known 993 idiosyncrasy!

Victor, Can you explain more about this 'known' 993 problem?. My drivers side door is making a rattling sound on motorways. but when the car is parked, nothing rattles. It's that typical metal on metal chattering sound you get when the door isn't quite shut. but it is... have i fallen foul of 'your' problem?
Dr,
Thats not the same thing. The door checkstrap problem is the clicking you get when you fully open the door as far as it goes. if you look at the 'hinge' mechanism, you can see what is clicking. It was always a grey area as to whether or not OPCs should fix the problem under warranty - some did and some didn't.
Here's some more detail:

Your door rattling - I get the same thing, its the window not seating properly - if, while driving, you put your hand/arm against the window - it stops.
mine was probably caused by my speakers being too damned loud and the door not having enough dynamat on it, so I did that last summer (Dynamat everywhere!). But I haven't gotten around to fixing the rattle yet.
