An example of current relevance to me: Siemens dishwasher. All the works are contained within a sort of plastic tray that forms the base of the machine. The tray has a continuous surface with no gaps, so you can't get at the parts by tilting the machine sideways and looking up its bottom. You have to unbolt the washing compartment and then hoist it up to the ceiling because if you try and tip it off sideways it'll break stuff. Or you have to turn the entire machine upside down and lift the tray off, which means that all the residual water hanging about inside pisses out all over someone else's kitchen floor. And in both cases the degree of dismantling necessary precludes hooking the machine up to the power and water supplies while in an accessible state, so you can't actually test any of the bits anyway. The obvious response is to reduce the machine entirely to its component parts and then insert them one by one into the designer's anus, but I don't know who the designer is.
A much shorter example: fitting the brake master cylinder bolts in a Morris Minor with the head ends, rather than the nut ends, between the chassis rail and the torsion bar.
