A bit of 'proper' engineering this week. Had my inlet manifold off to be de-coked, and the injectors have been treated to a trip to injectortune. Fuel rail powder coated too. smile

I did a trial fit of the fuel rail and noticed 2 studs were missing (?). I'm sure they didn't come out with the nuts (I have all 4), perhaps they came out during the cleaning process? 2 circled in green, 2 missing ones in red:

I had various M6 bolts (don't we all frown ) so created a couple of studs and put them in. The holes are blind so 20mm long was ample:

The 2 that were left won't budge so I'm still at a miss as to how the other 2 came out!

Don't think I have come across one with studs before. They are normally bolts.

I had considered using small M6 bolts instead but couldn't budge the 2 that were left. And my borderline OCD wouldn't allow 2 bolts and 2 studs!!

It's a '96 facelift model with 60k miles so probably not been off since new. The 4 nuts are flanged.

I haven't seen studs either.

When I have cleaned my manifolds in the past, I put them in the dishwasher on the hottest wash with a couple of tablets in. Comes out a treat!

They will come out once you warm the stubs with a block torch wink studs are normal here for fuel rail as in pic attached, you can get much neater M6 grub screws for this deal with an allen recess, just check the dimensions your after https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/M4-M5-M6-M8-A2-STAINLES...tongue outf:0

Probably something to do with not looking. Four RV8s in the workshop 3 with bolts 1 with studs.

You should file a chamfer on the end of the thread to create a proper lead in.

Should have mentioned its easier to maneuver the fuel rail into place using bolts rather than studs scratchchin

Maybe just a pair of studs on the nearside and bolts on the offside to make fitting the fuel rail easier as Simon said.

An advantage to that is if you are running Megasquirt or emerald you can obtain a better fixing for the earthing wires on a stud rather than a bolt.

Lets be honest, the legs on the fuel rail are easily bendable. smile So I can get it located OK.

I have filed a slight edge on the studs, the nuts will start using my fingers. I have Canems but there is no earth wire in this area. Fortunately the injector wiring loom has the connections at the approximate positions required, I noted as such when I disconnected it all, without labelling them...…

Thanks for your observations.
