Desk chair for bad back and hip

My wife has been suffering from a bad back (upper back) and also hip problems.
She is looking at hip surgery by the sounds of it..

She works from a desk for 5-6 hours per day and the pain is worst when she is at her desk after a few hours so I am looking at getting her a supportive desk chair.

I had a quick look online and there are chairs from £300 to £1200. No idea whats best etc.

Can anyone advise of a good brand to look at? Ideally I want to keep cost reasonable as she works from her desk in the office but also does a few days a week at home too so I will need to buy 2....

Buy second hand.

I bought a Steelcase Please 2 for my home office, to replace a Please 1. Probably one of the best things I have ever bought. I bought it off eBay, out of a home office, for 60 quid.

Absolutely superb level of adjustment, very comfortable. A big step forward from the Please 1.

Currently sitting in an old Herman Miller which is ok but no where near as good as the Steelcase.

Probably no good for 'higher' back or hip problems, but for lower back problems it takes a lot imo to beat a 'kneeling' chair.
I still sit on mine (I am now!) when at the PC, about 14 years on since I first had lower discs go. Beat surgery, and eventually the back pain too.
No back trouble these days apart from odd stiffness twinges now and then which a few roll-ups, or stretches or toe touching cures.

I paid around 50 quid at the time, seems they've gone up a fair bit averaging £80+. But worth it.
Still looks ok with seat padding a bit flat now (easily changed).

Cheers she likes the look of Logic 400 so we are going to see if we can find one to try.

They're much cheaper on Ebay. I wondered about using one but they'd put too much pressure on my arthritic knees. In any case I like to be able to flex my legs and change position every so often.

I also have a bad back and hip and I use a Herman Miller Aeron in the office.

Not cheap but worth it, I think.

Get her to try a few chairs before buying if you can. I replaced my Herman Miller last year and spent a bit of time going to different shops to try various chairs.
The ones often recommended as good (e.g. Herman Miller, steelcase etc.) are generally excellent chairs but everyone is different and for me there was one stand out chair (Hag tribute). The chair which was a the right one for me is unlikely to be the right one for your wife, so do try and road test a few.
