"We will keep your details on File"
Discussion
So I had a rejection email today after 2nd round interviews and they stated that they were impressed by by application throughout the process and that they will be retaining my details on file should a more suited vacancy comes along.
Has anybody here ever been contacted in this situation and landed a different role?
I dont know anybody personally that has succeeded 2nd time lucky. Is it just platitudes?

Not from retained details,, but I applied again, and was successful, when a job I'd gone for was re-advertised. Apparently I hadn't seemed keen enough first time. It was my first sales job, when moving from engineering.
Quite recently one of my daughters lost out to an internal candidate for a senior teaching job, and they offered her a different post, which she refused at first as she felt a bit insulted, but eventually she took it.

I got turned down for one job, apparently narrowly missed out getting offered it.
A few weeks later they contacted me about interviewing for another role, but at this point I'd already accepted a job elsewhere.
that was result then (of a kind had you not accepted the other job)......A few weeks later they contacted me about interviewing for another role, but at this point I'd already accepted a job elsewhere.

It was quite a large company, with a number of departments whose software teams were entirely separated. I suspect in a smaller or better structured company they'd have either hired me after interviewing for the first role, or not hired at all.
I wouldn't read much into it or build your hopes up. If it's a company you are really keen to work for then just keep an eye out on their vacancies even if they already have you on file.
Good luck with your search!
I can’t speak for HR departments, which frankly I don’t rate too highly but I always keep cv details for those I interviewed who were good and I have contacted more than one in the past when positions came up. The reality though is that if they’ve got alternative employment you’ll have to offer more and it always comes down to budget.
Most interviews I’ve done for experienced hires though have been bad because 95% of them can’t be asked to research our business, are totally unprepared and can’t sell themselves because their cv overstated their actual experience.
