I went out for a drive this evening and my Tam started missing on one piston, no mechanical sounds just running rough and loss of power. No error code. Temp and oil pressure all fine. No black smoke. Does this sound serious? Is this what happens when you need a rebuild?

Started - when exactly? On startup or later?

Maybe a HT lead problem or a duff plug?

I think when the engines go they tend to either start using a lot of oil or rattle their little hearts out.

Could be right there, when my throttle pots started to go, I had no warnings on the display too, so when I had the pots changed, I had the plugs and leads changed at the same time;, I would have thought if a piston had failed, some kind of error code would appear, could be wrong though, may be worth ringing your local dealer for a bit of advice, it maybe something very simple, I hope!

sounds similar to what happened to me - it was just the HT leads needed replacing.. because of the heat they seemingly deteriorate over time/miles.

Started fine then just started to mis, feels like an ignition problem to me but you always fear the worst when you own a S6. There is no rattle, everything sounds normal just lumpy.

Thanks for the help.

The speed six can go out of tune quite quickly - I can guarantee that mine will conk out at the end of my dirveway, every time it's started form cold, but 100 yards later, it's perfect!

Don't worry too much, it's probably a dirty plug, or HT leads as already mentioned. The head problems never led to misfires, as far as I'm aware, more like sudden onset of severe mechanical torture and consuming lots of oil.

Get it to the dealer, and get the computer plugged in...

Or it could be valve burn with no compression on one cylner when the engine warms up or it could be the follower, not all engines rattle when the follwers go. Get it to the a dealer.

Hopefully its just the leads that are getting warm and when they are under load they are arching out and missing a beat.

Come on Sid. The suspense is worse than those movies on ITV where they cut to the news for half an hour right in the middle.
