Bit of advice please, couple of CRV's here, both petrol. One older model with low mileage (53k), other new model mileage with high mileage (146k).

Best one to got for if both seem to be in decent condition?

I think you know the answer, don't you?

Whichever one you like the best!

In all seriousness, I'd probably buy on condition myself, and you touched on that in your OP. If it were me, I'm a bit traditional in that the 146k would put me off a bit, so, even though I think the newer shape looks much nicer, I'd probably go for the older one.

How many miles will you be doing? I would go for the newer one if service history checks out, the older one has had 6 stamped services it would appear in 12 years.

Expect suspension components on the older one to need freshening up.

Bare in mind that the fuel economy on these things is pretty poor.
Depending on use, you may well struggle to see 30mpg.

Cheers for the replies peeps..

It's just a second car for myself to run about in. My mileage would not be much, 4K ish a year at most. I was being swayed by the low mileage of the older one, but the newer tech and 6th gear in the new shape now seems like it would be a better option. Bit concerned of possible clutch issues at 146K. I know that's a risk I'd take with both though. MPG wise it's not really an issue I've got on a 15 mile round trip to work.

Feck it, i'll go and see the newer one first since it's closer. smile

What's your max budget? If you are willing to go a little higher you can get a nice 3rd Gen Auto in EX which gets you all the toys, no clutch worries and fantastic seats.

I wouldn't worry about manual though as it's easy enough to check the clutch on a test drive. Same for mileage, it's a n/a Honda petrol engine - extremely reliable even at mega miles.

But I'd stick with 3rd Gen CRV even if it is high mileage as it's a huge improvement over the 2nd gen.
