I need to get a new lid; wondering if anyone has any info on if/when Arai plan to release a new generation to the RV7-V? Looking back it seems they bring out a new one every 3 years or so; so we should be due for one soon... Anyone connected to any rumour mills on the subject?

What are you expecting that the current Arai lid has ? Are there any major tech advances in lids that make it worth waiting ?

Just curious as I've never though about this when buying a new lid, I just see 'pretty' !!!

Things like making the lining more comfortable and improving the noise reduction.

Might be worth getting in touch directly with them on social media - I'm sure they won't definitively give it away, but they might say yes/no/timescale for a new lid list.

I'm sure they're not going to give anything away, that's why I thought to ask here, in case anyone has industry connections and access to information not in the general public realm. That's what I'm looking for, not general life advice smile

What would make the lining more comfortable ? My understanding was these were already the 'benchmark' ? As for noise reduction, maybe you need a different lid if your issue is with noise ...

also lifted from the new Spring 2019 range .. looks like this is the revision ...

RX-7V
The RX-7V represents the summit of Arai’s knowledge, experience and know-how in helmet technology. With a completely new PB-SNC² outer shell, the revolutionary VAS (“Variable Axis System”) visor system and a significant increased smoother area around the temples, the RX-7V offers the new benchmark in the premium helmet segment. From the also new anti-microbial material liner with an even slimmer frame, to the new ducts, improved diffuser and the integrated Air Channels,

While we're talking Arai lids, does anyone else find the lack of non-replica colour schemes a bit disappointing?

I find replica lids a bit like wearing a football kit for going to the gym, there's something that doesn't sit right about it. Great if you're a collector and a fan, but otherwise a bit weird.

I've not used a RX-7 and its going to be very difficult for you to test before buying but the Shoei X Spirit 3 is really good.

In particular, the stability at speed and lack of noise really stand out for me.

Its quite a light lid at 1.4kg but not super light however, on the move it feels lighter I guess because of the aerodynamics.

No, because I have never found an Aria to fit my head comfortably, I seem to have a Shoei / AGV / Shark shaped head .....

I’ve just bought a Chaser X. I went for the League UK design. Looks great and it was just about the only design I liked the look of. I’ve gone down the replica Arai route in the past (a Crafar then later a McCoy rep) but none of the current lot tickled my fancy.

Do Arai have a helmet with a built-in sunvisor yet?

I switched to Shoei a few years ago to get helmet with a sunvisor because I was so bored with the rigmarole of changing visors on my Arai from clear to dark and back again.

Last time I looked at Arai they had created some shambolic sunvisor thing that fitted on the outside of the helmet and sat on the top like a motocross peak when it was up and looked even more Heath Robinson when it was down.

Didn't they always say they wouldn't compromise the shell by fitting such gubbins inside it?

OK so no one knows if and when they're releasing a next generation

I don’t think there will be a new RX7 for another 3-4 years yet. It tends to be 6 or 7 years before models are replaced. They’ve only just finished updating all the lower models to the newer side pod design. Also with the way Arai operate the new model probably won’t be that much different to the last one.

As far as sunvisors go Arai won’t make a helmet with one in as they say it compromises safety.

I've just got a Roberts replica Arai RX-7V. I'm not sure I like the new visor system, I found the old "sap" out way very easy and quick to change.

I know a lot of fannies couldn't do it without breaking the side pods but hey hoy, appeal to the lowest common dominator and all that.
