Hi All,

1st post, long time lurker!

Current lease due to finish in a few weeks. Will be moving house shortly too, meaning my commute to work miles will be @60 miles each way. Work shifts (4 on 4 off + regular overtime) so will be doing @500 miles per block just for work.

Current lease is through a works scheme, but with various changes to this scheme it's not going to be that beneficial.

So, is a lease for 25k miles a year really going to give me value? Or would I be better piling the miles on a car I buy outright.

For example: lease seat leon cupra over 3 years with 1 month deposit at £350 per month will be £12,600 for the term. I could buy a car for @ that money and have no worries about the number of miles I do.

after 3 years cupra would be returned v car I buy might have a little value remaining.

Your thoughts would be appreciated

The only answer is do your own comparisons and see what works for you.

Try to work out exactly what you get in each scenario. A car you buy for 12k can’t really be compared to a brand new car leased for 12k. They are two different cars, you just can’t compare.

Personally I would love to lease a car. I could get a much better new car for an amount I consider disposable each month. It would be under warranty and all singing all dancing.

But personally I don’t think it would work for me. I do 30k miles a year. After 3 years the car has been through the wars. The monthly lease would be huge and they would go to town on the return condition.

So I buy a car for 10k ish second hand and run it for as long as possible. I don’t have to worry about the condition but I may get a big bill any day. Ups and downs to both.

One day I will do less than 8k miles a year and I will lease. For now it doesn’t make sense for me. You need to work out your own circumstances.

Cheers for your thoughts!

That's just the quandary, leased new car or nearly new owned outright?

I'm not in any rush as have use of the family bus and while my daughter is out in Oz I have the use of her, less than fun, auto aygo! So I could have a free car for 18 months. Put the monthlies away and then should my daughter return from Oz buy her something in return for the miles I've piled on her car.

thanks again!

Whether it’s worth it depends on what you think really. My dad leased an X trail on 25k a year and I think it was £1000 down and £350 a month which worked out really well vs depreciation. Surprisingly it was only about £20 a month more than one on 10k a year.

He got a lease due to the fact that the A6 he had previously suddenly died and became uneconomical to repair. It was a great car up until then with no other issues and well maintained. The lease gave peace of mind that being a new car it was unlikely to go wrong and if it did then he wouldn’t be footing the bill. It’s been fine and is due to go back in a few months. There are a few marks on it but it should be cheaper just to send it back as it is rather than fix himself.

It depends on what type of car you're looking for as an example the S90 D4 can be leased for around £2500 down £400 per month with a 27500 mile pa limit, this is a non maintenance inclusive lease. So you're look

No I'd rather buy a nearly new low mileage car with some of the Manufacturer's Warranty left giving you the option to extend it & have the peace of mind of not having to worry about possible added expense, at which point you also have an asset at the end of the three years. As long as you're happy to look at the less usual suspects there are some great used options:

Infiniti Q50

Sport

This premium executive is a very good deal especially if you take their finance as they're offering a 3k contribution (even if their rate is high you can clear the finance after a month & still keep the contribution) which is a good sweetner.

Now this Sport at Motorpoint is very good value only being 2 years old & benefitting from super low mileage means you could hold on to this one for four years rather than 3.

There may not be many Infiniti dealers around but most Nissan dealers will service these, the drivetrain is all Mercedes (the same spec as a 220) so you'll have no issues there, it also means running costs are sensible.

Why not consider a kia with a 7 year warranty, either brand new or say 3 years old with 4 years warranty left ?
