oil cooler orientation/plumbing
Discussion
Morning all
I'm going to be fitting a thermostatically controlled oil cooler and am at the point where I need to select the oil cooler. Due to packaging constraints, there is only one location to put the cooler. I'm looking at Mocal coolers and depending on core width they are either 210mm or 330mm wide. The space I have to place a cooler is taller than it is wide. Is it ok to place an oil cooler on its side (in order to make most efficient use of the available space) like so:

Also, in order to prevent oil running out of the cooler and back into the sump when the engine is turned off, is it ok to run the "hot" feed from the engine to the cooler slightly higher than the actual oil cooler as per the (admittedly s
t) pic above? I'm hoping that any air in the system won't get trapped in the cooler running it like this?
Many thanks in advance!

That layout looks fine to me. It's flowing the right way to flush air out of the cooler, and has the outlet at the highest point. This is also the preferred orientation from the point of view of mechanical stress on the cooler due to thermal expansion of the matrix.
