Have just heard the owner (Louis) of a van hire business based in New Cross (Ace Rent a Van) on the radio.

He explained how his fleet has been reduced in value by up to 50% due to the forthcoming ULEZ expansion and how this could finish his business.

He has all my sympathies of course.

I have been looking for a small/medium van for my own business that is based well outside the new ULEZ. Does anyone have any idea where I can find these bargain vans - Euro 5 diesel or older. Despite hours of searching I cannot find any.

Small notice on the noticeboard of a few Toolstations and Screwfixes within the ULEZ area.

I know of three tradesmen who have moved their older vans on in the last couple of months. None of them are happy.

Thanks. Next time I'm in Greater London I will call into a few trade outlets and hope I'm lucky.

Autotrader/Gumtree/Ebay show no signs of prices dropping for non compliant vehicles.

I run a courier company down here in Devon
We are in London all the time . My only option is long term rental and these costs will be passed on to the customer but that is only what everybody else will be doing, so we will still remain competitive .
We do so many miles that buying new will mean we have vans with 300 K on the clock when they are 3 years old and thats the last thing I need.. I have recently been buying older vans with very low miles and making a good profit on running them but LEZ makes that unviable

Some old diesel vans still meet Euro 6 standard and are not subject to ULEZ.

Look for Toyota D4D engine 2009 onwards:

Put its number plate into ULEZ checker...

This can't be as apparently everyone has more than enough money and time to buy a compliant vehicle and it's going to transform London into a national beauty spot overnight, or at least that is what certain posters on the ULEZ thread have been telling everyone rolleyes

The ridiculous thing is that London is a country on its own . As a rule you can increase prices in London and nobody cares. If your costs in London go up and you pass it on it never appears to be a problem .
If you do this anywhere else then the customers both business and private dont like it .

The mayor of London knows this and as long as the money keeps pouring in from abroad . They will never stop forcing the costs of operating in La La Land (London) up.
