If you cut yourself on Thursday 12th, you think nothing of it.
If you cut yourself on Friday 13th, you think 'Oh, wow, that's really unlucky, I hate Friday 13th'.
It's the same as noticing traffic lights on red, but not green. In fact, Friday 13th might be safer statistically as people might avoid doing risky things...?

Friday the 13th is written in blood on our calendars from an event of 700 years ago.
On Friday the 13th of October, 1307 King Philippe IV of France sent in his henchmen with the sanction of Pope Clement V, who Philippe had installed in the Papacy by the simple expedient of murdering the previous two popes until he got one that would do his bidding, to commence an Inquisition against the Knights Templar in France and other "Catholic" countries.
The real motivation behind this was the fabulous esoteric treasures reputedly amassed by the Templars over a period of time, but Philippe used the pretext of heresy and other alleged religious crimes against the Templars to gain Papal support and mask his evil greed behind a front of religious ferver.
Thousands of Templars were arbitrarily slaughtered in the name of God and the Pope and only a handful escaped to Scotland.
So it was most definitely not a "lucky" date for them.
