..... have tried BMW and it seems unless you have some kind of a drooly story about a new M5 or want to discuss the comparitive benefits of automatic motorised seat bolsters that move when you corner (FFS
) then no-ones interested.
Without meaning to be patronising as I've always received enthusiastic and sound advice here before thought I'd give it a try on the off chance.

86 535i - Service lights worked fine up till yesterday - was sitting on 4 or 5 greens but whilst parked the alarm came on and then both red, amber and oil inspection lights came on and stayed permanently lit.
The alarm reset ok but even with no keys in the ignition and the car locked the lights stay on.
I think it is something to do with a small battery used to hold memory for the units - can someone confirm this and if so where is it and is it easy to change ?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I had the same problem with my 7 series, although it didn't affect the alarm. The battery is a rechargable one and is buried somewhere in the ECU. I'm told they are expected to last about ten years and should be changed at the 80,000 mile service. Sorry I can't be more specific.
Thanks mate thought so - knowing BMW this will be 50 quid for a replacement battery !
