This may be in the wrong place.

Anyway, I was driving up the m1 last night at about 10:30pm and had been on it since 8ish.

I was travelling on cruise control at the speed I always set it at for the 500 miles I do a week on the m1. Quite content.

Then from nowhere there was an almighty flash that not only blinded me for a second or two but scared the living shoot out of me.

I’m guess it wasn’t me that was flashed and must have been someone on the other side. I was in l1 with no traffic around me.

I think I must have been unlucky to have been in the wrong spot, eyes accustomed to the dark and startled.

But my god it seemed dangerous, has anyone else ever been shocked like that?

I’m not sensitive to brake lights before anyone asks!

I remember back in 82 my dad had a camera with a bulb flash, it was bright, I was shocked by it.

OP, the obvious question is how do you know it wasn't you? What speed was your cruise control set to? And don't forget this is what you think your speed is not what your actual speed is, if you have a Sat Nav, that should be able to give you quite an accurate speed reading.

Hi, 76 on the cruise, same speed I had done for the previous 100plus miles on that journey and the remaining through the variables. I did wonder if it was me but I do 500 plus every week in the m1, same journey and I normally do it at 79 and never had a flash.

I also used the cc to speed up to 79 for the next set of cameras, no flash.

I set off later than normal last night so was driving a bit slower, window down and a red bull.

If it was me fair cop as I was probably doing 72 but I will be surprised.

Are there any cameras at the place you saw the flash?

Motorway camera flashes are pretty bright, I've been in the vicinity of one when I was overtaken by a van, and did wonder if it was me that set it off, even though I was sure it wasn't (and haven't had anything through the post). This was long enough ago for me to have forgotten about it.

For it to be unbelievably bright you were probably in the wrong place and just got caught out by it.

They are a little bit dangerous, imo though, at high speed.

Next time throw your red bull can at the camera.

And stick your fingers up...using both hands ideally. That should sort it.

So is setting your phone camera flash off while a passenger in the back of vehicles regarded as a good wheeze?
