Why might a reputable independent dealer sell a £140K car on a trade only basis? I'm assuming it's not the case that they know the car is dodgy, because they it would be unlike them (and they offer their ramp for inspection, and it's the first time they've done this).

I am wondering what legitimate reason they might have - can't be bothered to inspect it?

Oh so I as a regular person can't buy it? I just saw it on Autotrader, I didn't realise the buyer had to be trade too.

Agree.

Have you asked them why?

I'd love to know what they say.

This kind of stuff really annoys me.

They want to sell it to you, but want no comeback

Law very much on your side though, any proper dealer will know this.

I'll ask them, although they may well give me some reply that doesn't really say anything.

If you end up buying it do the following.

Print all of the adverts.

Make a traceable payment to the dealer, preferably part credit card. Although protection only goes to 30k I think. Anyone?

Have the car inspected the day after you get it, or same day if you can.

Verify all of the service stamps by calling the garages.

Plus anything else people on here can think of.

Scares the scoobies out of me a reputable dealer saying "trade sale" for a £140,000 car.

Two of my friends are prestige dealers, it's not something they'd do selling to a member of the public.

I'd run a mile if I were you, then run another just to make sure.

Some of the best cars I've owned have been on these terms.

Dealership taken the car in PX, can't or don't want to retail (off brand , prep, apply a proper warranty etc ) so plan to trade it on/ send to auction

Offred it to me on clear understanding no come back, but equally been 100% transparent on what they know (and inspected)

Happens a lot less now, because both naive buyers and unscrupulous sellers (who have used 'trade sale' or 'sold as seen', as a way to offload at retail money a bad car).

Shame....

I agree, and have done the same, but generally at well under 1% of this price point!

OP, is it the older black car?

You're not looking at the little grey line at the bottom of the listing which says "Trade Seller", when you're in the list of results for your search, are you?
