I have to finalise the spec mid-February of my first ever Porsche which has an April 2019 build slot. My problem is that I won't be able to see any car let alone colour combinations before March. I find this rather daunting, as in view of the outlay I really must get it right. The Porsche configurator is poor as the pics have a yellow sun tint over them. Has anyone ever travelled abroad (I'm thinking maybe France or Belgium) as I presume thay have the car already in the dealerships? Anyone had this predicament before or could advise would be good.

FYI you can turn the configurator back into just having a white background by clicking the little picture icon below it.

In my experience the colours are then pretty spot on regarding realism.

Apart from Lava Orange, they can never get that right.

Have you looked at all the videos on YouTube? Every colour is on there somewhere. Also, I spent a long time at my OPC, they showed me many of the colours on other cars. They couldn’t show me my final choice which is gentian blue, but they had a swatch at least I could take into the sunlight.

Guards red + black. Next.

What do you mean that's not what the OP asked?

If you’re anywhere near Silverstone a visit there is a good place to see all the colouts. I am sure your OPC can arrange for you to have a wonder round to look at the cars....they have pretty much one of everything although there are some new 992 colours.

Very true about Lava Orange...it’s a lot darker than the configuratoror most pics/vids you see of it. iPhones tend to over expose photos (prob so you need flash less) so colours like LO look washed out,

Thanks for the info again, it really is appreciated.

Reading all the reviews/youtube videos it seems that the S is a marginally better drive, and appears quicker in the real world too. I tried to change my order from the 4S but the OPC said I would have to cancel (and lose the Brexit 10% "good will" gesture). So that is what I have done.

However, not wanting to lose the order they have kindly arranged a 90 minute S/4S (991) comparison for me next Thursday at Silverstone (only 8 miles away) to help me decide.

The OPC still have my deposit paid 2 days before the LA launch, but I will wait until the UK launch, delayed by 4 weeks, to finalise my spec.

Still like the Aventurine, but have seen so many different shades. Island Green interior maybe? Grey would be good with a Tobacco interior (which they don't do yet) I also notice new options keep appearing on the configurator.

Had a play the other day and it seemed like the sports design package was a must, purely to have the number plate higher on the rear. (I wonder if it is deliberately done to make it an option worth ticking).

What a difference it makes to the look of the car.

I’d agree the front looks better with the sport design but definitely not the rear, each to their own though.

IMO the Sport Design makes it look like the 991 Turbo, I prefer to have it look new, fresh.

For me it would be Aventurine Green, RS Spyder Design wheels, Sports Exhaust and truffle brown interior with crayon stitching. Yum.

I've gone for Aventurine green with Mojave/Black interior,Carrera Classic wheels and Black sports exhaust..I briefly considered only the front Sport design as i prefer the standard rear but sanity prevailed and chose standard front.
I've also gone for the 10mm lowered PASM as i like the look, but have stuck with standard LEDs to keep the cost within my self imposed 10% maximum extra cost options.

I'm not sure why you think the S will be faster than the 4S, especially in the real world. For example, off the line the 4S will find much better traction than the S and put in a better 0-60 time

Yes there's a weight penalty but the traction outweighs that.

The steering feel and turn in will be slightly corrupted on the 4S

Real World to me has never been about getting off the line, although the 'S' is actually faster to 99mph.

Porsche figures reveal that the 'S' is faster in all other respects. That 50kg is an awful lot.

Apologies for the image quality......

I like blue cars and had an aqua 997.2 turbo and now have a sapphire 991.2 GT3 which I don’t like as much. The new gentian blue looks great and I think it will sparkle in the sunshine.

As for the age-old S/4S debate, the better traction from the 4S applies not only on take off but especially in the wet. It’s partly down to tires but a 2WD GT3 in the wet is a nervous thing... hit some standing water and the 4S will see you right.

You shouldn’t lose any sleep over having chosen a 4S.

Gents,

I had my Porsche Driving Experience today with none other than Richard Attwood. I know I was fortunate to have been invited, but lunch alone with this gentleman would have been enough.

I drove both a 991 S & 4S and both were absolutely superb. At this moment I still can't decide which way to go.

Do you guys realise how lucky you are to own and drive such machines?

Thanks again for your advice and input, it's good to know what people like and dislike, and it will help me in my final decision.

4x4 is helpful in everyday driving. If the 992 will be your only car and driven in all seasons, definitely go for 4S.

Regarding exterior colour, white is a classic Porsche racing colour. But you should order metallic, hence CWM or even DSM or GTSM (most practical) are options to consider.

Get the heated sports seats plus, electrical folding exterior mirrors, matrix LED (if driving at night) and privacy glass.

Consider: PASM sports suspension (10 mm lowered), heated GT sport steering wheel in leather, and SportDesign sideskirts.
