Hi all,
Looking to buy something practical due to a new arrival in the family.
Requirements:
- spacious
- safe
- automatic (don't blame me.)
- not slow
- not boring.
- good interior.
- lots of toys.
I am based in Southern California, so rust is a non-issue, and neither is mpg. I also have zero concerns for image.
My daily driver is an e39 M5, I'd like something not that much slower than that, to stand a chance on the local freeways.
Budget: I am cheap. 10k-ish, less is better. More if it is fun/sufficiently silly.
Current thoughts: XC60, XC90, Cayenne Turbo. Seems 10k around here gets you a 2010 XC60 T6 or a 2004 Cayenne Turbo. I like the general idea of the Volvos but I fear they may be boring to drive, and the only time I sat in a Cayenne I thought the interior was super bland.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

I guess the interior of a 2004 Cayenne is going to be pretty average compared to a modern car. However - I have a similar age S, and it definitely ticks the "fun" box, far more than it should for a car of its size.
If I want a relaxing drive (which most of the time is the reason I use it), then I can trundle around with the air suspension set to comfort, auto gearbox etc. But if I come across a twisty road and fancy some fun, stick the suspension in sport, manual gear change - it's really a very fun car. It defies physics more than I would have thought possible.
I have had "proper" sports cars as well for a number of years, and it's obviously never going to compete with those - but even so, it's far more fun than I ever thought it would be.

Thanks guys for the replies.
Ok sounds like I need to try a Cayenne then. Davek, when you say the interior is average compared to modern cars, are you talking about the electronics/infotainment, or the materials? I am mostly concerned by the materials, leather, etc. Also, are they reasonably practical?
Grand Cherokee SRT seems to start at around 25k. Also I know I said I didn't care about image, but come on! ;-)
