Snack time down at the weir!

D70 180mm at F4 1/500th and 1/1000th at ISO200 and cropped (a 300mm would be nice so I've bought a lottery ticket today!)

I'm reasonably pleased with this - though he could possibly be a little sharper in the first one, but the perch was flapping about (well would you be happy being someone's lunch?)

Edited to get the detail right

Ron,
Is there a spesific reason why you used ISO200? You could have used 100 and still had plenty of speed with a 180 lens. Just curious as my camera has only ever taken 1 photo that wasn't ISO 100. I reach for a support before I turn the ISO dial. It would be interesting to hear other peoples opinions on this too.

Martin.

ISO200 is the lowest the D70 goes

Lovely shots, love the 'moment' in the first one

Are you mad? I'd be blown away with a shot like that.

I think you'd need a microscope to spot any difference in noise between ISO 100 and 200. I normally use 400, set it to 200 for a party and got a bit of camera-shake, so I'm now back to 400.

At this point someone - probably a Canon owner - may post a 1,000% blow-up showing a few specks, but no-one normally looks at a photo that way. I prefer eyeballs to oscilloscopes!

Thanks guys!

Yes - if the '70 would go to 100 I would have been there but Graham is right: 200 is as low as us Nikonian Dinosaurs get

As to "reasonably"... Well there's always room for better! Look out for my Ducklings tomorrow, when I've processed them!

In truth, I am dedicated to the dream that I will take one good photograph in my life. I am still working on that one!

And as you liked the first two so much I will treat you to the perch's demise. This is the full frame at 180mm, just so you can see that I didn't have to crop too much. Clearly I owe "Harry" for his great pose!!!

Not all of us live in Sunny Spain!

I never (ok VERY rarely) use a tripod, it's just not practical. Today I've used ISO 100,200,250,320,400,640,800 and 1600!

That would've been the deciding factor for me buying the 300D but the D70 came up at a much better price and I needed the saving

just buy one of these

www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=58714&is=REG

and your ISO 200 D70 is ISO 25. not bad for £10

You mean it gives you the speed (slow) of ISO 25, but it doesn't give the reciprocal increase in quality.

Beano,
Let me get this straight. You know the local Heron on a first name basis. And you used to have a pet Perch, but you let your mate eat it raw.

Mmmmm...now I'm worried!
