Blood in urine :(

Not having a great time of it lately...before xmas i had burning and itching while peeing and at other times, had a bunch of tests for UTI/STI etc and all came back neg at the time. GP had a feeling it was an NGU so prescribed antibiotics. Felt better for about a week, but symptoms gradually returning.

Went back for more tests this morning, and came back neg for STI and UTI still, but they found trace amounts of blood in my urine

I'm 33, otherwise healthy, and now pretty worried. I have a GP appt later this week, but i'm fearing the worst after looking into some of the possible root causes...none of them sound good I assume I will be referred to a urologist?

You will possibly get the 2 week cancer pathway which will involve CT scan, blood tests and a flexi scope up the old fella which wasnt as awful as youd imagine although the hot blonde giving me the local before I saw the surgeon was certainly memorable

What i don't get, is that in the two seperate urine analysis i had pre-xmas, no mention was made of blood in urine (one at sexual health clinic and one at GP), and i assume if it was present it would have been mentioned...so this has come up suddenly considering my other symptoms have been on and off for the last 8 weeks or so.

I'm wondering whether the ibruprofen i've been taking the last couple days for pain has caused it...GP appt on friday so I guess i'll find out where this goes.

It's frustrating to have taken a variety of antibiotics, had several different opinions from doctors, and to now have a brand new symptom show up...i'm guessing the urologists will at least have a more specialised view if/when i'm referred.

For gods sake, stop trying to self diagnose. You’re in the system now, so let them do their job.

Been there, done that with dr google and he can easily ruin your life unecessarily for a while until you know what’s what.

Agree with the above - wait for a proper diagnosis.

I had blood in my urine and it turned out to be kidney cancer. Had my right kidney removed in December as a result!

Now, assuming you don’t want to panic and worry about that, just be patient

My father has experienced intermittent blood in his urine and spunk since he was 25. He's now 78 and as fit as a butchers dog. Albeit less spunk.

Ibuprofen shouldn’t cause bleeding in the bladder. Urological infections, particularly in men are a bugger to treat, it could easily be the antibiotic wasn’t the right one for the particular infection (it’s a bit hot and miss sometimes). Given the symptoms you had before, I would expect infection in the first instance.

Yup all i can do is wait and see...i'm trying to see the positives of it getting picked up, if i hadn't been told then i would have had no idea there was an issue, as it isn't visible.

I'm fully aware of the pitfalls of googling stuff, which is why i have a GP appt on friday.

I did ring back the docs today and they double checked the urine analysis report from December...no blood, so at least this is a new development and not something that's gone unchecked.

Same process for me. Some blood turned up in a dip test my GP did and then a second which went to the lab despite no adverse symptoms. 2 week pathway and was seen and dealt with in less than a week.

All tests are done on the same day but due to the absence of blonde 'assistants' the numbing cream was administered by a male 'nurse' who must have been warned to ration it. Whilst the urologist tried to entertain me with what felt like the Flying Scotsman travelling through the long tunnel passing the prostate embankment (looked OK) I was distracted by my toes curling. When you go keep your socks on.

After all that nothing found..........except a few weeks later the radiographer tells me there looks to be some cysts on my pancreas (incidental findings) and I'm now referred to someone else specialising in that field and a MR scan. Upshot they tell me they are small and look benign so review in 12 months.

CT scans are very good at looking over the other body parts and flag up things you'd have no idea about
