Hi all, I'm thinking of taking advantage of the cheaper prices from buying at my local BCA auction but would like to know any advice please on stolen, outstanding HPI, warranties, VAT, commissions when buying? Thanks in advance

Isn’t it a bit of a mugs game?

Last few times I’ve been, cars were making more money than the cars abvertised through the usual classifieds.

Varied on the 2-3 visits I made to buy a car. Auctions currently full of Diesel cars, few petrol.

Some popular cars in good condition were £500 over private sale classifieds plus a £650 buyers fee on top.

On the flip side there were some unpopular decent 1 owner cars with full MDSH there in good condition that were pretty good value, e.g. a Beetle TSI220 and Citroen DS in particular both going for 2-3k less then advertised prices.

I thought I had got a good deal on a current model 66 plate Renaultsport Clio Tropy, but was told it was subject to a reserve and needed to wait a final seller decision. Was then offered it for 2k more which made it less compelling and declined.

Buyers fee table is on the wall, if you are a private customer its circa 6-8% of sale price, trade get a discount. Cars with 'assured status' cost £50 extra to cover costs of AA pre inspection and you get 24 hours to go back if there is a fault.
