The Worlds Best Diet
Discussion
This was on More 4 I think the other day. It’s on All4 for streaming. Basically run down of the general diets of some 50 locations around the world. Very interesting and surprising in places.
The Americans seem to have a lot to answer for in some places, either via their influence or via the processed foods they invented. The Inuits are crazy, eating raw meat basically directly from athe freshly slain animal and our diet, it was insinuated, might have been better in the past when it was all English breakfasts and meat n veg.
The takeaway for me was that the common thing missing from all the healthy diets across the world (by the shows metrics, whatever they were), was processed food. Processed meats, carbs, refined sugars, corn syrup etc etc
The best diets (apparently) had lots of fish, veg, fruits, saturated fats, oils, bit of red meat here and there, whole grains... basically whole foods, nothing processed.
Iceland was top with general diet consisting of fish, rye bread, skyr, lamb and vegetables. Marshall Islands were the worst with over reliance of imported foods from the US including processed tinned food and rancid looking turkey arses. They have incredible rates of diabetes and the most common hospital visit is for diabetes related amputations! Their diet became like this after the US arrived to test their atomic weapons and they moved from “hunter-gatherer” to depending on imported food.
Interesting watch imo.
