Backdating of JSA Income Based
Discussion
So after nearly 2 months and lots of messing about and general slowness/dragging of feet by the DWP I finally got a payment today from them - Hurrah!.
But by my rough calculation its about half of what I was expecting with the claim backdated to 13th Nov 2018. I have yet to receive the letter (the money went in today though) from the DWP that will tell me the date from which the money is being paid from but am I right in thinking that I should be entitled to have the claim run from the 13th Nov? They seem to have paid me for the last 30 days only so I am short and its like £300 odd.
Anybody know the drill?
The only problem with waiting for DWP letters is that they seem to "go missing" so I could be looking out for the postman for weeks only for it to never arrive and then its delayed further while to you are in the lap of the gods with the DWP.
Might just ring them later today.

DWP letter arrived today and they have backdated my JSA fully however they have cut it by over half from £73 (the minimum the law says i need to live on apparently) to just £35 a week. I have yet to hear back about council tax so paying this at the full £75 a month leaving me with £16 a week to live off.
The letter stated my Class 1 NI contributons for the period 2016/2017 have run out - not sure why they based JSA in 2019 on my taxes from 3 years ago but anyway I rang them up first thing to ask for an explanation as instructed in the letter if you have a query. Prey tel they dont have the answers or the necessary records at that office to give me any answers (more delays). The lady did say that their records show I still have over £6000 savings when this is now just over £1500.
The DWP really are messing people about. I probably paid about £5000 in tax and NI for 2016/2017 so I dont see how my contributions have run out.
At least I have a letter stating my entitlement albeit £35 sheets a weeks (a joke and less than half what the law says I need to live on) so I will get my new prescription, dental bill for a check up and my new glasses free of charge this weekend.
going to search up on my NI contribibutions before I get the call back from the DWP.

so because a jobcentre worker inputted my savings incorrectly last year suggesting I had a hidden building society account with £6000 stuffed into it , its now my fault!.
they have now asked me for bank statements going back to March 2018 from the time I was made redundant to prove the money I had at the time.
this puts me back at least another 3 or 4 weeks because of how slow the wheels churn once you post info into the DWP black hole.
Ive requested the statement from my bank by post and will get it off ASAP not forgetting to keep duplicates for myself. whats the odds of them not receiving this after I have posted it?
I wanted to apply for a CPC drivers cards for £32 (doing a course for 3 weeks from Monday so will get the CPC) but just cant spare the cash as these idiots are only paying me £35 a week JSA. No joined up thinking. They say work pays! so I might get a valid CPC but cant apply for jobs that require a CPC driver card plus the cost of the passport photos say £4. jobcentre wont cover these costs.
there was a guy on you tube who was offered a construction labourer job but he had to provide his own boots and PPE. he told the job centre he had been offered a job but that he had to supply the kit and would they support him financially. No was the answer so he had to refuse the job (they couldnt just buy him the kit probably at bulk discount prices and take it out of his first months salary?). anyway his advisor then asked him "so are you refusing the offer of work ?" He had no choice - rock and hard place. He wanted the job but couldnt meet the employers requirements so the jobcentre sanctioned him for 4 weeks........no money for 4 weeks. How does that help guys like him?

Im sure a friend/family member would come up with £35 for a CPC card or some PPE if the person really wanted a job and were reliable enough to pay it back from their first pay packet.
Why blame the govt, some people need take some responsibility for their own future instead of "blaming" someone else.

Personally I was of the belief in the governments hyperbole that "work pays" and that they are there to provide help and support to help get the unemployed back into work. Can that not extend to a tiny bit of financial support ? Short term pain - long term gain. Some people literally have no pot to take a pee in so they would be forever stuck in groundhog day without some help.
Dig into this a bit more and what you will find interesting is that there is actually millions sloshing around in the coffers for the DWP to pay thousands of
retained "training providers" that have popped up over the years so plenty of money is there....... just none for joe bloggs to get his £40 boots.
My CPC course is rumoured to have cost circa £500 but of course its not a direct payment to me to pay for the course - these payments are business 2 business or GOV 2 business. When I finish my CPC if I am required to have my own steel toe capped boots for example I would get no help to buy them. Maybe that wouldnt quite be the case if there was a national company that called themselves a boots provider as I think the DWP would only then be too willing to fall over themselves to dip into the coffers and pay for boots by that means and no doubt overpriced boots at that.
Surely our welfare system should do everything it reasonably can to help get everyone who wants to work into work.
Watching trash TV like Benefits Street does nobody any favours and just creates a menace and ill feeling towards people who just need a bit of a leg up.
But sticking with the above view for a just a few awkward seconds longer........maybe we can close the food banks. Its not the governments problem is it? If people cant feed themselves then maybe we should just let em all starve. That ends that little problem.

i may be wrong but if PPE is needed shouldnt the company provide that. i know many years ago as a jobcentre adviser, back when we cared and actualy tried to help people , we had a thing called the adviser discretion fun whereby we had various shops , providers that we could write a voucher for for up to 300 quid . i often got interview suits for people and shoes etc and back then ppe stuff. they had to show proof of interview or job offer , then was fine . the max was 300 quid in a 12 month rolling year. i remember getting a young lad a bike so he could get to a new job he had been offered and workwear. it used to be a massive help to overcoming barriers to work. i would rather get a lad a bike or bus pass to get to a new job than have him sign on. we didnt give cash but had a list of suppliers and prices for things , if we didnt have a price we rang the shop.
after going to the jobcentre yesterday and having bank statements scanned in for almost a full year i get a call today from the DWP.
apparently they are now happy with my details but as my claim is now being handled by a different office they can only adjust my payments going forward and wont be able to backdate me on the arrears some £400.
thing is the last time i heard from them they did backdate my money for 10 weeks.
they seem to keep having "restructures" and all it does is create a new link in the long chain of correspondence and new delays.
its just painful.
