Is this something we all get from time to time?

I've never had day after day of not sleeping but my 18 year old has not slept for more than 2.5 hours for the last 3 nights. She won't go to the doctor about it but is now asking me to take time off work to look after her 5 month old because she is naturally exhausted. Baby is sleeping fine but she cannot.

I'm worried to be honest, she doesn't have a great history due to mental health issues so I'm concerned this will lead her into postnatal depression yet she won't do anything about it.

It's only 3 days but I'm at my wits end already frown

I have suffered with insomnia since 2014. It comes and goes but can be very disruptive when you go consecutive days without decent sleep. Usually I can get off to sleep OK but then wake a few hours later and can't get back to sleep.

I use nytol occasionally to help get a full nights rest - the stuff that you have to ask the pharmacist for.

The dark blue pack is a double dose, one pill a night but perhaps try the light blue pack and start with a single pill and see if that helps.

I've had insomnia ever since I was at primary school. Not every single night but probably around 75% of the time. I struggle to get to sleep and can still be awake at 3 or 4am. It was a nightmare when I used to commute to London.

But I'm functioning and suffer no obvious effects although I am fully aware that there are health risks with not getting sufficient sleep.

I think it's a little premature to worry if she's only struggling for 3 days so far, especially with a 5 months old baby. It's not uncommon for mothers to get poor sleep hence they should try and sleep when the baby is asleep in the daytime.

Wouldn’t worry after 3 nights of no sleep.

When my insomnia has been at its worst I would have loved getting 2.5 hours sleep. My pattern would be falling asleep immediately and waking up an hour later. Then being unable to drift off until the morning.

Mobile phone usage at night is terrible at keeping the brain awake. For me it’s diet based which really impacts it. Not enough fruit and veg and my sleep pattern goes

I think you missed where I said it's not baby keeping her awake. Baby is sleeping fine but once baby is asleep she can't

Get her to go out for a long bike ride or a run.
No screens after 9pm.
No caffeine after midday
If you're awake worrying about jobs, make a to do list before you go to bed.

Thats a combo of what works for me and the missus.

Have suffered for as long as i can rememeber. Booze helps but i had to nip that in the bud as it was becoming a problem..

I use Nytol, well Morrisons version as they are the same only half the price.

My issue us when i finally afree with myself it's time to go to sleep the crap that runs through my head is unreal. Nothing to do with work or anything just random crap. I could write a book.

I need to start exercising and getting out more to tire myself out and ditching the screens. Was watching crap on Netflix until 3am this morning for the 3rd night running. Then of course you end up napping during the day, starting the vicious cycle once again.

Yes, but having a baby can affect emotions and stress and thus affect sleep.
