Friends, i need your help with a problem on my brothers Audi A3.

He has an Audi A3 2.0tdi (60 registration).
The DPF and Emissions control light (engine) and glow plug light started flashing yellow recently.

The DPF and emissions control light were cleared by performing a passove regen after an oil and filter change. The lights did not clear after only a passive regen.

EGR fault came up afterwards. Garage quoting £400 for the EGR (cooler?), bolts, gaskets which seem in line with Audi prices. Garage want 6 hours labour on top of parts.

The DPF was showing 60g of soot orignally.

Please an anyone help by telling me if this is a common failiure and if the prices for repair are reasonable?

Thanks

Ray Singh

Applying a little more research shows that this is more common than you think after the diesel gate recall. Some dealerships have completed the repairs for free. See here

Basically, if they have fixed for gratis one car, they are admitting to the issue? It will be worth putting this to Audi.

Yes, I replaced one on a 1.6tdi common rail.

Takes time to do it, subframe, exhaust and transmission has to come off.

I've seen something about a 2yr warranty after the emissions fix - would that apply here?

I know some mappers offer an egr delete option, may be worth considering.
We had our A3 done, egr and dpf delete and i know its not right but i didnt particularly care.
Passed mot no problems at all.

maybe a bit too late to take it back to the dealer and claim it was OK until the fix

My brother has booked the car into Audi West London (AWL). They told him that the EGR cooler needed to be replaced, Total bill £1400.
We raised this with Audi UK and AWL came back with a gesture of good will. Total bill to my brother of £400. We pushed a bit more and showed them the dieselgate website and it seems that we may have got the repair for free. Thank you Audi UK and AWL.

Next hurdle is to get them to agree to the warranty on the parts and labour - as its a gesture of goodwill, apparently it wont be covered by the warranty. This doesnt sound right to me....

Update.

Full repair done for free by Audi West London and Audi UK. The important point was that the car had full main dealer service history throughout its life.

He even got the normal warranty on the parts and labour.

A job well done.
