Barris ‘snakepit’ for sale

The ‘snakepit’ is a custom made truely bonkers outrageous fire breathing monster car. Uses six V8 engines all coupled together, numerous Holley carbs and lord knows what else to produce this 300 mph monster car. For the brave (foolhardy?) Not for local shopping.

No reserve and isn't one of H&Hs higher profile auctions, and as its online you can't even see which will mean that its unlikely to get much 'wow effect' bidding. I'm not entirely sure but curious to find out. It seems they've synced up each bank of three engines, so there are two automatic gearboxes. Each of those gearboxes drives a different axle at the rear I believe, and there are also two throttles. If it doesn't drive then hopefully it runs as that would be a cacophony worth hearing!

I too would love to just hear it running, it has to be glorious sound. The mental engine configuration for some reason reminds me of the merlin engined car of the early 1980’s. They run that car down an airfield, the commentator couldn’t keep up with the speedo readout as they accelerated

I think I would just about prefer a merlin/meteor engined car just because I prefer a huge V12, and somehow it seems less trouble than six V8s?? You could have bought the McMullen roadster last weekend at auction for not much more than this heap's projected price

Tom MuMullen's '32 roadster, is arguably the most famous 1932 of all time, early 60's Hot Rod mag cover car, Streetrodder cover car, NHRA record holder, and probably created the quintessenial look of the hot rod of that early 60's era, with its Ed Roth flames, front mounted Moon tank and blown SBC etc.
Also featured on no less than 4 different Captiol Records produced LP album covers in the early/mid 60's.
Also the subject of this, one of the most famous images (despite being a staged one) of hot rodding in the 60's and maybe of all time.
Fast forward 55 years, and here it last weekend at the Mecum auction in Florida where it failed to sell when bidding stalled at $700,000.....

Thanks for the images, I'd never seen it nor heard of it but my knowledge of hot rods isn't the strongest and the only reason I know of the Barris car is because I get H&Hs email updates and found the car interesting! I very much doubt that the Barris car will reach anywhere near the 700k mark though. lukeharding said:

Most of the Barris stuff is crap.....and it's only the because of the Batmobile, Munsters and Beverley Hillbillies TV stuff that everyone goes silly over it.
After big brother Sam left the business in the late 50's/early 60's, George would have likely sank without trace had it not been for lucking out with the TV Batmobile build.

Great looking custom car from the 60s as most of barris,s cars are.i had a good look over it last year at a custom car show,none of the engine's are connected with no transmission,s so its just a mock up.shame. Most of his cars do work and can be driven.The monkey mobile from the TV show was at wheels day a few years ago and sign ed by the stars on the body work.
