We moved in to our new home last year and found various items left behind in the garage, barograph/recorder, rain gauge etc.
But couldn't work out what this is? It stands 110cm tall and the small diameter pipe runs all way to the top. Made of copper with heavy brass base.
Come on PH, put us out of our misery.

Forgot to add, previous owner said house used to be a weather station. As well as blacksmiths, shop and post office. Still have postbox marked V.R. in front wall emptied 6 times a week, handy.

Is it a gizmo for measuring the hours of sunshine?

The sun shine got magnified by the globe and burns a mark on the piece of paper and you measure the marks to calculate the length of time it was sunny.
