Why am I excited about my new £1k Focus?

I bought a new daily hack to commute in (25 mile round trip on B roads and motorway) and my expected annual milage will be around 8k. I have a second car for fun.
This is a Ford Focus, 2006 plate, 1.6 petrol, 105k miles and a full service history. 3 door which is a bonus for me as I think it looks better plus a big enough boot for the dog!
The drive home was surprisingly good. I've never driven a Ford or anything like this before. It feels simple, reliable and the gear changes are really good.
I reckon I've done well for £1000... and I'm weirdly excited by it; probably knowing that it should be cheap to run and I won't have to worry too much about it.

It's not unusual to get a lot of pleasure from something more simple, and cheap. Having to give zero feks about a car is liberating as well.
Completely this. Nothing to prove and nothing to loose and exactly the same reason 95% of the time I'm happier driving a Skoda diesel than I am a XJ8.
Best grand and a bit I've ever spent. Not giving a toss is very liberating.

Yes, I spotted those in the original advert and nearly didn't even bother phoning because of that. But owned by a lady for past 4 years and before that her sister. Only 3 previous owners.is that some go faster red brake calipers fitted ?
Regarding plans, nothing other than maybe painting them black
Great cars, I’ve always had a soft spot for old Focus’. We’ve got two ‘ 06’ MK2s in the family and they are just so reliable. Granted, one has only done about 40k miles but has been owned since nearly new and has only needed wear and tear items. My cousin also has a Y-reg MK1 that still lives.
I have a MK3 and it’s a great car. I’d quite like a MK1 to tinker with so can understand your excitement for yours.

I have a soft spot for the trusty old Focus. My wife had a 1.6 mk1, which I then took on for my commute for a year or so. My sister had that off us a few years ago and is still going strong. We now have a mk3 1.6 Titanium estate as the family transport. I would gladly what you’ve bought for the daily grind and at just a grand I’d be rather chuffed too. Nice one.

I bought this Mk1 a few months back just to use for taking the dog out and taking my lad to football. Paid £240 for it and it went straight through MOT last month. Already using it more than I planned and genuinely enjoy driving it.
Nothing ruins a dashboard like an aftermarket stereo..
Glad I kept this one from a Transit I broke up last year.
Spent nothing yet but do plan to give it a service shortly,

Nothing goes better than a car you don't need to worry too much about!
Hump back bridge near the house? see how many wheels you can get off the ground.
Park as close to the shop as you want without wrrying about door dings.
Eat a big greasy chippy and not have to drive home with your pinky.

Have really enjoyed using the Focus this whole week. Usually I'd be on an empty tank by now but the Focus still has half left. The 1.6 engine delivers enough power to get me from A to B without much fuss and even accelerating off a slip road and onto the motorway is perfectly adequate.
Last Sunday I even gave it a proper clean, decontaminated the paintwork using a clay mitt then waxed and sealed it. It came up really well.
Current extra pend so far is £25 for a new set of wiper blades
