Ex Comex diver getting his two Rolex Subs watches valued

One was a non date 1970s with Comex engraved on the back 10k

The other one Comex on the dail full set with Dive log book 50k

Nice little next egg being as he got the watches for nowt

I'm convinced that most of the people who go on AR are fully aware of what their stuff is worth, and just go to have their egos massaged.
My brother in law used to dive for Comex. I wonder if he's got anything tucked away!!

On the AR subject I knew a guy years ago who colllected pictures. He went on, but was approached before hand via a dealer and then a researcher. So I can confirm that at least some of them are well aware of what they have.

I can understand watches that have some connection with one of the Armed Forces being worth more, but branded workwear?

Also, there seem to be watches on every week and they're not exactly antique.

Fair point, but I suppose the argument is that being in the armed forces is work, and people given Comex divers are likely to use the watch for their intended use.

There was an article i read in a watch magazine a few years ago about a pair of these with full dive logs, photos, and all manner of paperwork to add a backstory. Im sure that they went to auction and sold for £1 million.

Are they really THAT rare?? What number of these are around say vs the double red?

Just compare the price of a Comex Sub with an SS Daytona 116520. I’m sure the numbers make ‘sense’ like that. It’s not just the rarity, I guess. There are plenty of people who have collections of Rolex watches who then want the slightly unusual pieces. That’s fine by me! Why not?

About 20 years ago when I bought my Sub, the same dealer had a boxed Comex next to it in the window. I could've bought it, but thought the dial was nicer without 'Comex' written on it (I wasn't really into watches then, just knew what I wanted).
i still prefer the look without, but I'd rather have the other one now :-(

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as Rolex isn't Bremont (or Omega speedmasters) they don't make a habit of special editions for every regiment or company under the sun, so the Comex ones are quite unique. They've also been issued to and generally worn by sat-divers, who (please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong again) are a lot cooler than soldiers or fighter jocks or 50th anniversary of moon landings.

a stupid bloody timex is the only thing you get from Hess; that and a green model lorry with 'Hess' on the side of it. Even the Italian contractors only run to a 'must be less than £50 so you don't have to declare it on the gifts list' freebie these days. Oh for the days when you'd be given a gold Rolex for being such a nice client.
