Skype for Business was bad enough, but at least it worked.

Now that's gone, I'm left with the stty Teams, with which it seems impossible to communicate with anyone who is not part of the same organisation.

Has anyone actually got this part to function correctly?

As is the way now, one can only post on a forum for help.

It works well for us - however we have pretty basic requirements and we don't have the public telephone option.

We can do conference calls with external users but they need to set up an account (and use the app if they want to use their phone)

This thread is relevant to my interests as we're looking MS Teams integration with our product in the coming months. I've not used it yet.

Works for me, but:

1 - it may be dependent on policies set by your administrator - possible you had federation enabled for SfB but not yet for Teams. Worth getting your admin to check.

2 - it also depends on which "mode" your Teams tenant and account are in - there's various permutations to fit what different people need or to enable proofs-of-concept and migrations. Again, worth getting your admin to check.

3 - I'm on various TAP and early access programmes so have lost track of what's early, releasing or generally available. But federation has worked for a while for me so I assume GA now.

If you have office 365 then it really does make sense. the whole 365 set up is superb for a business that doesn't have in house IT expertise and great value for money.

If you aren't already invested in Microsoft I am not sure it makes sense.

I'm not an expert user (wasn't of Skype either).

Skype for Business was always a bit odd, what with who you could contact & who you couldn't.

I spent a few hours yesterday trying to get some sense from the various forums & help pages.

Eventually, after deleting everything I had set up (which was admittedly wasn't much), I managed to add a person not in my organisation.

Today's challenge: Communicate via Teams to tell them tea is up instead of resorting to popping next door.

Works well for us,

Our Parent company who manage our SFB managed to make an almighty balls up of the config (dropped calls, poor quality)

We're pushing our users to embrace Teams as it works much better - maninly because our parent company's IT department hasn't touched it!!

Oh and IIRC - Microsoft is replacing SFB with Teams to directly take on Slack.

We can't use SFB or Teams to contact anybody outside the business anyway.

So now everybody has 3 or 4 ways to send messages to people. Yay. That's not confusing at all.

Plus in teams everybody starts a new conversation to respond to an existing one...

Typical user: See box for typing...type, send...why people no happy?.

MS are also pushing Teams in Education heavily, using Skype as a Digital Classroom, works very well well in Teams, although I prefer Zoom for teaching as that has better functionality for engagement.

Works well in our company. A sister company still uses Skype and we have to keep that too for when we want to contact them. Teams is far superior. I suggest if there are problems them it may be down to your IT with a bad or incomplete implementation.
Works well is probably optimistic. The call quality might be more stable than Skype. But Teams as a who is a bit of a hotchpotch and simply creates more layers and confusion. It also doesn't integrate very well with Outlook among many other flaws.

been waiting a year for MS to fix Federation. still using skype in parallel for customer contacts

also be careful what files you store in it.

Nuke the team, nuke the files from sharepoint at the same time

It's good but there are a few bugs...
Call quality & handling is about as good as it was with Skype...so we use something else for team meetings (Zoom)
The chat function only allows I think 20 members.
The chat group owner can't delete members.

Other than that...it's a lot better than previous offerings. Integration into Sharepoint is good etc. Call quality is good enough for chatting to colleagues but not brilliant for group presentations (hence why we use Zoom which is excellent).

I suppose that's the issue with having a flexible system.
You can create groups for chat that you can manage by adding and deleting members you just don't do it in chat!
Once you are in a group chat you can only leave it, you can't exit others. To do that you have to set up the group separately.

It's been worth it for us just due to the way it manages files.

It'll be coming to us at some point. We have rolled it out to select team members in IT, I am one, unfortunately, I have hardly used it to so I'm not really able to comment on whether its any good or not, but knowing Microsoft, I think I probably know the answer to that...

If I have just a couple of wishes v's SFB it would be (1) can the copy and paste to and from a chat work consistently (without adding weird characters or changing format) and (2) please allow me to disable notifications for IMs as I find IMs on the whole an intrusive pain in the arse. Right gotta go, as someone has just IM'd me... rolleyes

In Office 365, this seems a complete nonsense to me. It's too easy for people to say they didn't see something.

We have just started using Teams, but are still using SfB for messaging and calls plus Webex for conference calls and meetings.
For what we use it for so far, Teams seems a good way of sharing and communicating in projects etc, but does seem like a bit of a resource hog.

Hi

We have started using Teams quite extensively at work - although I don't have personal experience of the video calling within it. Our engineering team use it extensively and I have only heard good things including calling customers.

It has stopped huge endless email trails with irrelevant subject matters. I reckon my email traffic has halved. It has enabled us to effectively communicate on a particular channel (project) and then find the information again (if necessary). I also quite like the mobile app which means I can quickly check stuff during stand-up/ shop floor meetings.....
I suspect I do not use the full functionality yet, but keep finding new stuff (bots?) which make things easier. There are little foibles (my personal hates are the start new conversation inputbox, and defaulting to opening Excel/ Word files in the on line version (aarrrggghhh!))

Oh, and the other problem with Teams is that it becomes a bit like Facebook. People start posting 'look at me I'm an attention we' type threads and expect everyone 'like' what they write...it's especially cringe worthy when senior managers write some drivel, and the usual suspect ass kissers 'like' what they wrote and fall over themselves to agree with the senior bod...or maybe that's just where I work.
