Emma Smith in "Sunday Times" reports that number of live scam has been stealthily increased.

Thousands more are getting pinged because operators have doubled number of live scams. In 1997 - one in eight scams was "live" - und this apaprently was on BiB advice...

"Sunday Times" gained the info under FOI Act und this now reveals one in five scams are live.

DfT has tightened constraints on number of cameras which can be installed

[i[ Given numbers which sprout up - tehy are not obeying this either

At same time more digital scams are being installed - und there ist apparently no longer a restriction on number of live scams.

Per RAC - BiB advive was that one in eight should be live. But Avon und Somerset have 66/114 scams pinging people - 58% compared mit 33% in 2003. (Und no improvement in KSI stats either

Strathclyde's percentage of live scams has risen for 17% to 24% in two years - und Derbyshire has 19/110 scams active at any one time - just under one in five.

Und "Sunday Times" ist also very disturbed to report:

Sunday Times said:

Some safety camera pratnerships tried to avoid producing the information required. Several failed to provide details of live scamera, despite being given the 20 day period of grace under the FOI Act

Mid/South Wales dished out 121,000 NIPS in 2004 - more than any other pratnership - und refused to provide the information. ( Can they do so under the Act - when some of the others interpreted diffferently und complied mit the worthy broadsheet's request?

London Safety Prats also failed to comply und the Sunday Times

Sunday Times also obtained minuted of meeting in Derbyshire Prat which advised the shredding of documents as a response to introduiction of the FOI in January. The prats cited "concerns about workload" generated by the act and suggested ways of coping including "surplus information to be disposed of". Derbsyhire prats denied any wrong doing und RAC said timing of document was dubious.

Do not know about anyone else - but we have to keep our documents for years as we deal mit medicines - und Mad Doc's medical records also must be kept - else he is in bother. Und other relatives who work in industry - the acountant keep for 6 years plus 1 under Limitations Act und the manufacturing side for the CIMA one - ist 10 years plus 1 retainment of documents. Und then there are requirements for PAYE records....Surely this applies to these people?

Sunday Times reckons this increase ist one of reasons why 42% of all drivers have points compared mit 29% in 2003 - und why cash register went up by whole third in 12 month period - 1.85m paying £60 Fixed Penalties.

Motoring organisations are calling for more openness from the prats

These pratnerships have become self-fulfilling bureaucracies

6000 scams - und to increase revenue - they have to raise number of live scams....und this ist really about safety?

Ladyman has his work cut out trying to cull number of scams if this ist way his mind ist really working....

And you can bet your boots that if they eventually do see sense, and start pulling Gatsos down, any that contain cameras will have them relocated to other sites. There's no way they're going to start chucking £30,000 cameras away. So the proportion of live sites will go even higher.

Yes, but at least he is in a position to try and do something positive. He needs support to get him on the right track and keep him there.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

There are 'other' ways of removing those cameras.
