It's not for me, but a good friend of mine (wish I could buy a new car!)

He's leased an X-Trail for the last few years, and the lease is up in March. He wants to give it back and wants to replace it with something else. I like looking at stuff I can't afford, so excited me has been sending him suggestions but we were wondering if he's likely to get a better deal if he waited till March time once people have handed back their lease cars so he can get a better "deal"

As a side he's not fussed how its financed, but looking for something around 35k.

Focus RS - fking uncomfortable even for me
S4 / avant - had one, arguably a bit dull
M3 - like them but don’t like the stigma attached to them
GT-R - too expensive to get a decent one
M4 - 3dr issue
A45 / M140 / S3 / RS3 - but too small
Evo - perfect but not allowed
911 - too pricey and 3dr

My suggestions:

Stinger - ugly
S90 (T8) - tempting but 45k on carwow (or similar)
Impreza WRX - dhead car (according to his wife)

Any suggestions? He has 2 young kids, so 3 door isn't ideal.

Lexus GS F: https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

Trying to avoid the more obvious German options of which there's obviously lots.. Hard to know what to suggest without knowing more about what he wants, £35k affords plenty of fast, practical cars.

My question was more around the timing of buying a new car, with suggestions welcomed.

Just before the end of a quarter in my experience. We bought our Ranger Wildtraks 3-4th week in June and got a major discount circa 16%. I cannot see why end of March would be much different, maybe end of September a little better. It depends on whether the retailer has hit quotas for the quarter which you'll only know when you drive the deal. We went to 5 dealers before we got the offer we accepted.
