Octavia vrs MK3 TDI 184 using lots of oil

Hi Everyone,

Not sure if anyone knows much about these, i have a bit of a drink problem with the above car, the engine code is CUPA, it's the ea288 family I believe and similar to the 150's, it's now got 137k on and used as a taxi so I do a fair bit of milage but since I've had it gets serviced every 7k or so.

It's using about a litre in less than 1k miles but there's no obvious blue smoke or leaks & it drives fine, my mechanic who is great has checked the turbo which seems in great nick but we haven't had a chance to do a compression check yet.

We are also going to investigate the breather pipe which seems like it's built into the rocker cover on these but possibly the cheapest to replace?

Just wondering if anyone has cane across anything similar as it's obviously shared with Mk7 golf gtd's and various Audi's etc.

My GTD with that engine needed occasional topping up between services, but I had it on Longlife so was doing 18k miles between seeing the dealer.

Sounds like something could be amiss if yours is needing much more than that. These engines don't really have many reported issues as they're still quite new.
