My car is a F30 320d. For the first five years of its life it was on a service contract. Every time it went for a service the work done, date, mileage etc was entered on the dash display and I could scroll through the service history.

It is now out of the service contract so today I gave it an oil and filter change myself. When I was finished I went to the "service required" menu and re-set the mileage. I did this by using the odometer button and following a method that is described in other threads on here and on the 'net. It worked as described.

The problem is that I can not see a way to enter the work done in the service history. I do not have any diagnostic equipment that will "talk" to the dash display. Is there a way to do this using buttons on the dash or do I have to go to a dealer?

I have just bought a 330d and had a similar issue. The dealer said to me it had been serviced on the day I picked it up. When I got home this service that may or may not have happened wasn’t recorded in the idrive. I rang them and was told it has to be serviced at bmw to be entered into the cars computer. So I have now booked in for a service with bmw.
This may not be the case but what I have been led to believe at this stage.

Only main dealer garages and independent garages that are signed up to a subscription service with bmw have the facilities to be able to do this

Just kept physical receipts/invoices of work done, as proof of servicing etc. Like the old days!

I have a 2015 Mini Cooper S that has this. Funnily enough I only found the computer service history after I bought the car, and noticed the FIRST service was done at 47000 Miles... obviously not impressed as I bought it direct from Mini who assured me all cars have full service history.

I asked them to Print out all the invoices they have on the Key Scan System and I’ve put them in a folder, there’s 10+ pages of warranty and service info.

Turns out they forgot to record the First Service at 22000 miles on the computer...! But had all the paperwork for it. My dad took his 330d in for service last month and they didn’t even reset the service indicator let alone record it on the Computer SH.

Your best bet is going to BMW, print all the previous work done, and forget about the computer and keep all invoices in a folder.

The problem with invoices is they end up getting thrown away if the car is ever part-exchanged or sent through an auction, due to GDPR. So the service history is essentially lost.

I think BMW have deliberately restricted who is able to update the service records on the iDrive, and as mentioned it is a separate process to resetting the service due light. I'd maybe try exploring the suggestion of getting it updated via an eBay seller....
