289,000 miles in a 520d
Discussion
Thought some may be interested that my old man's 2006 (56) 520d had an incredible 289,000 miles on it before it was recently written off (someone drove into the rear of it), and the car was still on its original clutch!
A large proportion of the mileage was on the motorway but I still find it incredible the car was still going strong at almost 300k miles, its a shame it didn't quite make that milestone.

Chances are, it's on a truck to Lithuania as we speak. A large proportion of the mileage was on the motorway but I still find it incredible the car was still going strong at almost 300k miles, its a shame it didn't quite make that milestone.

They were a good car.
My 320d SE Touring (52) is on 116,000 miles at the moment. All I ask is that it takes
me to retirement age (Oct 2021), anything after that will be a bonus. At mot last week
I asked the (trustworthy) indy to check the waterpump. They said it's in good nick and
that I shouldn't worry. They've looked after my car for the six years that I've had it and
reckon it's a keeper.

116k is still an infant loads of life left it that yet mate.My 2012 (12) 318d SE Touring is on 104k already!
Friend of mine is a taxi driver and his 2010 (10) 318d Touring N47 is on 270,000 - and the internet said it would chew it's own chain at 100,000
- Regular maintenance they go for a while.Lots of oil changes are the key, plus allowing the engine to idle for 2 minutes after a long run. My 320d did 190'000 and is still going, the 120d I tried to rescue shat itself at 150k. Loads of F10 520d taxis around town with 350'000 and now on third chain. £1000 every 80'000 to do the job isn't so bad when it earns you a living. The F10 really does wear its miles very well.
