In my quest for more power , well since running out of steam at 5000 rpm as per the rolling road on sat, I have put the origianl 450 ecu that came with my injection setup ( jag injectors, larger plenum, jag afm) - have been using the 400 ecu untill today as seemed to be running ok !

Back to the point of post, when I use the 450 ecu the idle is very lumpy and hunting, it does not stall but not very healthy, although on take off it does seem to be slightly quicker than the 400 ecu.

So any suggestions to the hunting, will I need to reset idle etc, does the wiring have built in resistors as still using the 400 wiring and left the 450 wiring in the garage when I put the engine in !

More power More power More power - oh bu**er broke something else !!

Good chance that the 450 ECU was modified for extra fuel and that's affected the idle. The 400 was probably unmodded hence runs smoother.

The idle is very lumpy on my 450 also - could be another they're all like that fault !

After going through 3 AAV's (albeit 2nd hand ones) that all worked intermitently giving terrible hunting I decided to ditch them and plug the hose.

Obviously yours may be ok but I found the idle is much stronger and less likely to be affected by engine alternator loads with it removed - although I do have to sit there for a minute holding idle revs from cold - not such a bad thing anyway.

Once removed and plugged I then needed to reset the idle air as follows (also make sure the CSI is disconnected).

Check throttle stop position screw and set butterfly to 5 to 8 thou gap closed position.

Make sute TPS is set to 325mV at this position.

Use a CO meter to set up bearing in mind the plenum air bypass increases fuelling as well because it acts on the AFM flap, the ECU bypass doesn't affect fuelling.

It should be possible to get a steady if somewhat lumpy idle at least unless there are other problems (air leaks, injector / sensor / ecu issues, overun valve etc).
