Continental (VDO) or Bosch Stereo
Discussion
Hi all,
Picked up my Chimaera 500 at the weekend, what a car! Pictures to follow shortly.
I'd like to change the stereo for something a little more modern with bluetooth, usb connection, etc, however I'm not a big fan of the modern looking stereos.
Has anyone got experience with either of the stereos shown below? Both seems to have quite a basic "stock" appearance, but still have great functionality:
Continental (VDO)

Bosch

My Chimaera is a 98 model and currently has what looks like the original Pioneer head unit in it. I'm hoping I can just switch over the ISO connection without too much trouble, or is that wishful thinking?!
Many thanks,
Andrew.

The connector block behind my original Pioneer unit plugged straight into the modern Pioneer one I fitted in 2014, and again into the modern Sony with which I replaced it in 2018. The change was because I missed having pre-set buttons and couldn't master the other controls either. The Sony is perfect for someone 65 going on 6.
Before you spend an age and a heap of angst trying to get decent radio reception out of either the standard aerial or a DAB one, give consideration to using Radio Player or a similar app on your iPhone and blue-toothing it to the head unit. Works brilliantly on mine, though I actually use a USB lead for two reasons - my 2014 £25 second hand Sony is too basic to have Bluetooth, and by using a (short) cable my iPhone gets charged through the head unit at the same time.

That’s my plan, to install a stereo that allows my phone to connect and then I can take advantage of internet radio. A front USB would also be useful for charging it too! Before you spend an age and a heap of angst trying to get decent radio reception out of either the standard aerial or a DAB one, give consideration to using Radio Player or a similar app on your iPhone and blue-toothing it to the head unit. The Pioneer stereos are quite clean looking and have great sound.

I have put also this same kind of unit in my Chimaera and Scimitar, not a classic but a subtle look with a nice price.http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/head-units/pioneer...
I’ve looked at these. Believe the retail package usually comes with a DAB aerial included (windscreen fitment). I don’t think the Bluetooth supports music streaming apps unfortunately, but does carry mobile phone calls.

I watched a review video on YouTube which showed music playing over Bluetooth, so hopefully it will do. If not, there’s always an Aux in connection which it also has.https://www.bergvillfx.com/index.php/products/car-...
Mine arrives from Germany next week, i’ll Update once fitted!
