Someone drove into my car while it was unattended in a car park, and then left their car there! No note, etc but CCTV is also in play.
My insurance company were great tbh, my photos were pretty cut and dry for a third party claim and that’s the way it’s gone.
Within a week my car has been collected and fixed, and I’ve had a hire car with no issues, so far.
So, as-long-as it doesn’t turn into my claim it’s all sorted.

So, since then I’ve had calls from random companies using mobile numbers virtually once a day. Their either from “Claims Dept”, “Accident Assistance” or any other vaguely accident related words.
They know the date of my accident, the car and number plate.
How, in the age of GDPR and PECR do they have those details?
The only people that know about the details are my insurance company, the police and I assume the hire car company. All of which should be covered by the relative privacy policies, etc.
Are they just paying to mine the MIB and CUB? If they are, surely they’re then breaking rules?
My guess is they are, and now they’re using burnable numbers so they can’t be traced?

Chances are your insurance company "sold" it to the ambulance chasers.

I have legal cover on my insurance so was put in touch with solicitors via insurance company when I had my accident, for the first 10-12 months after the accident I was getting on average a call a week from an ambulance chaser, of course as soon as I told them I had a solicitor they hung up. If they got my info from the insurance company surely they would ask for the back hander to be returned due to getting mis-information?

It makes no sense the insurance co sell your details for you then to put in a bigger claim and costs them more money?

Why not dont sell your details and get lower value claims, saving them money.

I had an accident in Sept, and was genuinely surprised I didn't get any of these calls. My insurers were informed of the accident, but the entire claim was handled through the third party insurers - maybe that makes a difference?

I get them now even though the only claim I've ever made was 15 years ago when an uninsured minicab reversed into my car, whilst it was parked on my driveway.

I usually string them along by making out I had an accident a few months ago, but start revealing details such as having blown 3 times the limit after crashing, or asking if they're seriously saying I can recoup the cost of repairs from ramming the guy I was raging at.

I'm sure that makes me an a-hole but meh.

Oh, I do get the occasional (every 2 to 3 months) 'I've been told you had an accident that wasn't your fault' - but these are from companies that have your number and nothing else - don't even know your name. (I've also strung a few along when bored).

But I had no calls when I genuinely did have an accident that wasn't my fault. I was quite disappointed!

Hello Mr *****, I understand you recently had an accident. Did you know you are entitled to compensation.

Thats handy, I could do with some money. I am going to be liable for some considerable costs now.

Do not worry, we can help you with those. You are entitled to this money.

Thank you. The costs might be ongoing, does that make a difference.

No not at all. Sometimes you can receive payments for several years to help with expenses.

Brilliant. What do I have to do?

Please explain to me what happened and how you are affected.

Well I was shagging the babysitter and the durex burst. She is now pregnant and my wife hasn't found out yet and neither have her parents. She wants 5 grand now and a monthly, or she will spill the beans.
