Mother diagnosed with Dry AMD, any experience?

My poor dear old Mum (84) has just been diagnosed with Dry AMD. I know given her age and even after a quick Google what is eventually going to happen but I was just wondering if anyone has any experience of the journey to get there is going to be like, both for her and the rest of the family?

They haven't let her know how far it has already progressed but she will be having a further update and tests at the beginning of March. She has now told me that she was beginning to see "round things as oval at Christmas," so clearly all has not been brilliant for a little while. I know its not fatal but it will clearly cause an issue with her independence longer term and as her main sources of entertainment/involvement comes from things related to her vision (puzzles, books. TV and the internet.) plus she has been not been steady on her feet for a long term, I am concerned about it lowering the amount of exercise she gets when that's already too low and she has been getting depressed about not getting out enough for awhile. She currently lives in a block of flats with a warden & some friends so she at least as some support and I will now be travelling down to see her more than ever but there will come a point where things are going to have to change

So if anyone has any experience of this condition then if you could give me any advice I would appreciate it.
