Cheap reliable run around , bit of fun but reliable !

I need to purchase a small car to get me around central london . Must have AC and I prefer manual . The odd occasion .I will do long journies . Budget £3-4K

I have looked at the following .

1.Mini .But worry about issues
2.Fiat 100hp
3.Suzuki swift sport
4. Renault Clio sport etc
5. A Honda or Lexus !


MPG is important .

Perhaps not quite the same level of fun, but I've heard good things about the 1.5L Mazda 2 and should score decently on reliability. Just over 40mpg according to Honest John's Real MPG:
