collecting / transporting car from shipping port
Discussion
I am just researching how to import a car from Japan. Once I clear customs and collect the car (ROLO) from Bristol
how can i transport the car back home? I know I can't drive it, so I guess I have to transport it on a trailer.
is there anything I should be aware of when doing this ? or is just a case of loading it on the trailer and driving off?
thanks

Mate of mine insured his on the VIN and just drove it home from southampton to bournemouth with no plates...no ideal how legal that was but he was passed by a couple of police cars and had no issues.
Did the exact same thing when I collected my Mustang from Southampton, it was insured on the VIN and drove it home to Warminster (50ish miles)
I used Shiply to get quote and had a Mini Cooper from Japan picked up at Newcastle. Although you can insure on the vin and drive it the car still has to be roadworthy. If it has a couple of baldy tyres you weren't aware of or isn't running as you expect the potential for hassle and fines is large..

Interesting. I always thought you had to be taxed and MOT'd to be on the road, and in order to get an MOT you need a license plate. Do you know if there's any info online that you can show a cop if they pull you over?
I ask as I've got a Copart vehicle sitting in storage that I really want to drive back but I'm waiting on the V5C!
